Language teachers need to be able to understand the purposes of language assessment, the suitability of different approaches to assessment and the consequences of assessment. This workshop aims to explore and extend language/s teachers (primary, intermediate, secondary) language assessment literacy and enable them to promote good practice in language assessment as part of their professional work. The workshop will be very practical and offer opportunities for discussion of assessment documents and designing of appropriate assessments in relation to different instructional tasks.
Topics/themes that will be explored include:
- key concepts relating to assessment: construct, validity, reliability
- relationship between assessment and learning
- different purposes of assessment
- effective feedback for learning
- use of online tools (e.g. Kahoot) for language assessment.
Participation in the workshop is free but will require participant registration and commitment to attend. Please email Rosemary Erlam at [email protected] to reserve a place. Please note that numbers will be limited.
