Student travel award

Submission Guidelines
 
Sponsored by ALTAANZ, the ALTAANZ Student Travel Award is intended to support postgraduate students in attending and presenting at the ALTAANZ conference. “In the classroom and beyond: Assessing language ability in different contexts” to be held in Auckland, New Zealand from November 17-19, 2016.
 
Fee:
A student travel award is valued at Aus $500.00 and would also include a waiver of the early-bird conference registration fee.
 
Conditions of the award:
Applicants are eligible for consideration if they:
- are enrolled at a degree bearing program at the time of submission to ALTAANZ 2016 in either an Australian or a New Zealand university;
- are listed as author or co-author of a full paper proposal accepted for the conference (any co-authors must be other students rather than supervisors or other colleagues);
- do not have other financial support covering a significant portion of their conference expenses;
- are not previous recipients of the award;
- are members of ALTAANZ (which is currently free to join – see http://www.altaanz.org/joining-altaanz.html).
 
Recipients of the award are expected to attend both days of the ALTAANZ conference.
 
Proposal guidelines:
Students applying for the award should send an email to <[email protected]> with Application for Student Travel Award 2016 in the subject line. The deadline for submissions is Monday 25 July 2016.
 
The email should include the following:
  • A copy of the paper proposal  abstract that has been accepted for the ALTAANZ conference;
  • evidence of student status (in the form of a letter from the relevant University administrator);
  • a budget outlining costs (travel & accommodation) involved in attending the conference;
  • a covering letter indicating their motivation for applying for the award and including a statement of financial need.
 
Evaluations will be made based on the financial needs of the applicant and the quality of the paper abstract. Up to two awards may be made in 2016. The successful candidate(s) will be announced on Monday 15 August 2016.
